BLACK HAUS would say they are “Just four negros creating” and that would of course be true. But who are these four guys? In a world that tries to put Blackness into a box as just one “thing” or “stereotype,” Black Haus refuses to conform to societal and artistic expectations.
A group of four unapologetic Black men making music together, their most recent song, “Divide Em!”, encapsulates their shared nonconformist spirit, demanding to be heard with fired-up punk-screamo vocals, feisty electric guitar, and aggressive drums. A direct response to the 2021 U.S. Capitol Building riot, the confrontational lyrics critique the alt-right’s cry baby tendencies, extreme privilege, and racist division. Listening to this song is a cathartic experience, especially for people-of-color who have felt misunderstood and silenced under the Trump administration.
Barely over a minute in length, “Divide Em!” packs a hard punch and leaves you wanting more—luckily, Black Haus delivers with the rest of their discography. Other standouts are “Removed” and “Burn It Down” from their debut EP, Mss Thang, a cross-genre project that blends elements of grunge, rock, rap, psychedelic funk and more. It’s clear that Black Haus will be a powerful force in the foreseeable future, and we encourage you to keep a close eye on this talented quartet as they climb the ladder.
